Red Bull reveals the repairing cost of Verstappen’s RB16B

Max Verstappen Red Bull RB16B Crash 2021 British GP

Red Bull Racing advisor Helmut Marko describes the aftereffects of Silverstone crash and updates of the physical condition of Max Verstappen. The Austrian confirmed that Max’s health is fine and fully ready for next Hungarian Grand Prix.

The British Grand Prix witnessed for made the highly dramatic on-track wheel-to-wheel battle of the 2021 season so far, as title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Verstappen had their first major collision. The crash sent Max into a massive 51G impact with the tyre-barriers, its resulted 25 points loss and total loss of his Red Bull car.

Red Bull RB16B is total loss

The car is a “total loss”, Marko said to German RTL. According to the current status, the damage is around 750,000 euros. It is still unclear whether the engine is undamaged. A bitter blow for the racing team. Marko: “It’s a significant amount that hurts us, especially in times of budget constraints.”

Red Bull will not push for further penalties – Marko

Basically, there are the penalties of the commissioners. A further or new punishment would only come into play if new evidence, such as TV images, emerged. Red Bull consultant Marko explains, “An appointment is only possible if there is new knowledge.” But these are “not given”. Red Bull will therefore not push for further penalties, said the Austrian.

Regarding the survival from huge crash – A crash at 280 km / h and 51g (i.e. 51 times your own body weight put on Verstappen’s body). Nevertheless, the Dutchman “only” complained of dizziness, apparently no serious injuries. Thank God!

Why is that? Several factors come into play here: On the one hand, the racing series has been intensifying the highest safety standards for years. This includes an extremely safe monocoque (the safety cell in the F1 racing car) that protects the driver and protection systems such as HANS (Head and Neck Support), which specifically protects the head and neck. The force of an impact is distributed from the head to the chest and protects the driver from a broken neck.

In addition, the circuit in Silverstone is secured with extremely wide stacks of tires, which at least dampened the crash a little. As early as 1999, Michael Schumacher raced into such a pile at high speed after a brake defect and broke his leg.

And last but not least: The pilots are more fit than ever and invest heavily in their bodies and fitness. Special neck exercises are part of the daily work and not only lead to the well-known “bull neck” with Mick Schumacher.

Helmut Marko is certain that a “normal mortal” would probably not survive such an accident. “The drivers are in incredibly good physical condition.”

Max’s father Jos, who raced 106 races in F1, said Hamilton should have been disqualified from the race.

“It is really unacceptable what Hamilton did. Jos said to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. “Max gave him space and was front of him. You cannot overtake on the inside of Copse.

“A 10-second penalty is really ridiculous. As far as I am concerned, they should have banned him from the race.”
