Former Formula one boss Bernie Ecclestone claims that, Lewis Hamilton was only responsible for the 180mph collision at Silverstone on Sunday. The crash was resulted Max Verstappen into a massive 51G impact on the tyre barriers and resulted a total damage for Red Bull RB16B.
The incident is still widely discussing on the media because it was the first major collision between the title rivals Hamilton and Verstappen 2021 season so far. After the collision Hamilton received a 10-second time penalty, but the Brit fought back to the top podium, which was a stunning performance.
Seven-time F1 world champion’s victory reduced Verstappen’s championship lead from 33 to seven points.
Ecclestone newly expressing that Hamilton should have received a much higher penalty for his collision with Max. He also quotes ‘the punishment did not fit the crime’.
Who was to blame? You have to say Lewis. – ‘In the old days we would have said it was one of those things, a racing incident. It was clear that everyone was doing his best to win the championship. But if the stewards needed to get involved then they should have given Lewis more than a 10-second penalty. It should have been 30 seconds. Ecclestone said to Sportsmail.
‘Lewis was not in front at the point they collided. It wasn’t his corner. He was almost a car’s length behind. That’s why he hit him at the back not the front.
‘Ten seconds was not right. The punishment did not fit the crime. If you have to give a sanction, which in some ways they didn’t need to, this was not right decision – it wasn’t enough.’
Very difficult to judge – Charles Leclerc, who made second place for Ferrari
“It is very difficult to judge it from the car, we are very low, so it’s difficult to see everything and it went very quickly. I could see there was quite a bit going on in front of me. Leclerc said
“I think it’s a racing incident. It is quite difficult to put the blame on one or the other. Obviously, there was the space on the inside. Maybe Lewis was not completely at the apex, but it’s also true that Max was quite aggressive on the outside. Things happen but I think what most important today is that Max is unharmed and is fine.”
It can happen when you fight hard – Valtteri Bottas, who set third place on the podium
“I saw them fighting during lap one, a bit like yesterday. I had a feeling something was going to happen but obviously they were fighting hard.
That kind of thing happens, that is racing. It can happen when you fight hard and you don’t give up. I’m just happy Max is fine because it was a big shunt. But I really feel like Lewis fully deserved the win today.”
It is a very tricky one – Lando Norris
“I don’t know, it is a very tricky one. Both drivers risked a lot, and Lewis got a penalty, so they thought Lewis was to blame. Going to the inside there is a very difficult thing to do, especially because when you come in at such a high speed on the inside it is such a tight angle.
“It is easy to do it Lewis did and understeer. I guess he misjudged it a little bit. It is racing. I don’t know, I don’t want to say anything.”
Hamilton could not vanish – Fernando Alonso
“It is difficult from the outside. It looked quite close, Lewis had more than half a car alongside Max.
“So, in a way, Lewis could not disappear from the inside line, it’s not that you can vanish. It was an unfortunate moment of the race, but nothing intentional or nothing that any of the two drivers did wrong in my opinion. That was an unlucky moment.”
