WRC champion Ogier: It was theft – Hamilton was “robbed” of his eighth F1 title

FIA PRIZE GIVING – VERSAILLES 2017 Lewis Hamilton with Sébastien Ogier, Toto and Suzie Wolff during the FIA Prize Giving at Versailles on december 8, 2017

The legend, eight-time World Rally championship winner Sebastian Ogier raise his voice over the most controversial 2021 F1 title decider and he backs the victim Lewis Hamilton, who lost the record braking eighth F1 title.

The Red Bull ace Max Verstappen cinched Abu Dhabi GP victory and secured 2021 F1 title, following the controversial safety car decision by race director Michael Masi.

Masi’s Abu Dhabi GP unnatural decision was to let lapped cars that were between only championship contenders Hamilton and Verstappen had been allowed to unlap themselves, rather than all lapped cars as per the rules, prompted outrage led by Mercedes team.

“[The situation] must have been very difficult to accept. [Hamilton] had the impression of being robbed, and he has been robbed. Let’s not be afraid of words. Ogier told the Super Moscato Show on RMC

“Even though I have a lot of respect for Verstappen, he had an amazing season, he has not stolen the title. Both merits being champion, but it is true that for this last weekend, Lewis was in front until the end.

“Unfortunately for him, a few laps before the end of the race there is the famous safety car, then they restart again. The truth is both would have been wonderful champions but on this last weekend, it is theft.”

Hamilton still has been silent, lots of speculation claims that the Brit will retire, but Ogier has no doubts the seven-time F1 champion will not walk away.

“He will come back,” added Ogier. “He is in an ultra-competitive environment with the best team right now.”

Mercedes development of 2022 F1 Car

Mercedes F1 team boss Toto Wolff is much pleased with recent successful development of W13, which was achieved in the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying P1 and double podium finish behind the champion Max Verstappen.

Presently the competition between Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes. But the Mercedes is the only team consistently maintaining the consistency. Wolff recently revealed that the “unconventional” methods taken to accelerate the development of the Mercedes W13 this season.

“In this season, we have done unconventional things and I remember having a chat with a very clever lady in aerodynamics and she said, ‘If you would have told me last year we would be putting a floor on the car we haven’t run in the wind tunnel I would have said we are never going to do this’,” said Wolff.

“We did and everybody was proud of the results. [It’s] the same thing every weekend, we try things.”

“This is a database source but if you can’t rely on the data, because they don’t correlate from the virtual world, from the tunnel, CFD and simulations with what is happening in real-time on the track, you have just got to try things and find correlation… basically reverse engineer correlation. Wolff added

“This is what we did and had positive results.”
